Creating a Holistic Life
Every day without even knowing it, we are inhaling, ingesting and absorbing thousands of chemicals that can accumulate in our bodies and slowly lead to the deterioration of our health.
Cancer, Alzheimers, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Autism, Dementia, Heart Disease, and Respiratory problems are all on the rise and you must ask yourself why?
The answer, I believe, is right in front of us, and that is why making healthy changes needs to start now, not when it’s too late. By making simple changes in the food we eat and the products we use, we can eliminate and save our bodies from processing unnecessary chemicals.
My mission is to help you reconnect with nature and to work towards leading a sustainable lifestyle, by eliminating toxins and creating positive health and happiness. I started with small changes and after seeing encouraging results strove towards a stronger holistic approach and minimising my carbon footprint. By slowly incorporating one life changing product at a time, I found myself researching old world home-remedies, naturopathy and all forms of natural health herbs and essential oils. I was obsessed (in a healthy way, don’t worry)! By absorbing all this knowledge and adopting a healthier, cleaner way of life, I felt reinvigorated, revitalized and regenerated - and I wanted to share it with as many people as possible!
Where Do Unhealthy Habits Come From?
Growing up with a European background I was eating what I thought was a traditional “healthy” Mediterranean diet, but the big difference was the ingredients going into our meals. Food was purchased from large supermarket chains, with limited fresh produce and not a single ‘Organic’ option in sight. Whether it was fruit, vegetables or meat, most of these products were either genetically modified, doused in chemicals and pesticides or pumped with steroids. The accumulation of toxins was beginning; my childhood diet was one filled with refined carbohydrates, salt, vegetable oils, colourings, processed foods and sugars - with most meals coming out of tins, packets and plastic containers.
After my marriage my cooking habits remained much the same, as that was what I understood was best for me and my family. Though I always tried to maintain a fit and active lifestyle, my downfall was my diet. I cooked with vegetable oils, used non-organic fruits and vegetables, refined cereals, reconstituted fruit juices, and meats that were grain fed, riddled with antibiotics and injected with steroids. Again, I lacked the understanding to mark all of these with a red flag!
Even though I tried my best, I felt that my body wasn’t very “healthy’’, as I had many woman problems, which I was led to believe were normal.
I suffered from acne, was very underweight, had extremely painful periods, attracted viruses often, became afflicted with endometriosis, and at the age of 29 was diagnosed with precancerous cells on my cervix. For me, this was a huge wake-up call that I had to make a drastic lifestyle change, before it was too late. I started with eating predominantly organic vegetables, eliminating dairy, avoiding refined sugars and salts, and consuming less meat - also choosing organic meats when possible.
An Organic Skincare Range is Born; Meeka Body
The harmful ingredients I was consuming wasn’t my only worry however, as I was becoming more aware of the toxic and un-natural products I was using on my body as well. Through research I slowly uncovered that the ingredients most skincare products contained were having their own side effects on the body. I was shocked and could not believe that on a daily basis I was pumping thousands of toxic chemicals into and onto my body, which led me to believe this was the reason for my poor health and why my body wasn't functioning efficiently.
Apart from what I was eating and using on my skin, I found out that the body is under constant attack from oxidative stress from our external environment. The environment we live in is full of carbon monoxide, sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, lead, aluminium, pollutants, radiation and, in-particular free radicals. Free radicals have been found to be associated with many human diseases including cancer, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. They also have a link to ageing, which has been defined as a gradual accumulation of free-radical damage.
Substances that generate free radicals can be found in the food we eat, the medicines we ingest, the air we breathe and the water we drink. Unfortunately, these substances are now a part of our everyday environment.
The scary part is, this doesn’t even include the products we use around the home, as well as our cosmetics!
This was when my Meeka journey was born, as I started developing a skincare range for myself and my family. One free of toxic chemicals, and safe for your body. When researching the cosmetic market, I found a big gap where a truly natural and organic skincare product could exist. So, I went out and located a local store that sold organic, all-natural beauty ingredients, herbs, extracts and essential oils and started mixing! Much to my initial surprise they were loved by all, and my home recipes and research was not only improving my lifestyle but also that of my family and friends.
I fell in love with the process of creating these nourishing products, as it was so rewarding to see my whole family enjoying the fruits of my labour and making everything myself was extremely therapeutic.
This passion for health and wellness has resonated into Meeka’s luxurious body and skincare range and is a core priority in our product development. Partnering with an Australian certified organic and vegan manufacturer was of great importance to me, as I wanted to ensure that each product within our range undergoes a stringent and extensive testing phase, guaranteeing an enriched and superior natural product for your body.
Beginning Your Journey to Wellness
My passion is living a holistic and chemical free lifestyle, and believe this approach paired with a clean diet is the key to optimal health and glowing natural skin - and I want to share this with you!
Every small change you make has a huge impact on your health and wellbeing. There is no need for chemicals when mother earth has provided us with everything we need to live a healthy and wholesome life. Love yourself enough to make the change today and start your journey to live an all-natural, chemical free life which allows your body to be in sync and work harmoniously.
By making small, simple changes in the food you eat and the products you use, you will eliminate thousands of daily chemicals you expose yourself to and save your body from processing unnecessary chemicals.
Start by eating plenty of predominantly organic green leafy vegetables - cooked and/or raw – as well as, nuts, seeds and legumes.
Try to eliminate dairy by switching to organic nut-based milks and avoid refined sugars and salts.
Consume less meat, and switch to organically grass fed, also look to incorporate whole grain sourdough and seed breads into your diet, which assist easier digestion.
Purchase Celtic sea salt / Himalayan rock salt which has 84 trace minerals.
Drink purified, alkalized water that contains minerals which can help to neutralize acid in our blood, cleanse the colon and rejuvenate the skin.
It is this culmination of slight diet changes which can have a huge impact on your overall health and wellbeing.
The cleaning products you use around your home also play a big part in creating a healthier environment, so try to switch all your cleaning products to eco-friendly, biodegradable, grey water safe, non-toxic, organic products.
It can seem like such an insignificant thing but eliminating toxic skincare products that are harming your health is so important. Do right by your body and replace detrimental products with our organic, bioactive skincare range that works, feels amazing and has certified organic extracts and essential oils that are blended perfectly to benefit mood and overall wellbeing.
Our skin is the largest organ and it absorbs everything you put on it and expose it to. This all gets absorbed into our bloodstream, and then our liver and organs have to work on overdrive to break down these toxic properties and attempt to eliminate them from our body. Unfortunately, our bodies can only do so much, and when it’s frequently working overtime to detox our systems, our immune systems are compromised, and a negative health cycle is created.
Make the move to organic and non-toxic hygiene items; deodorant, oral care, body wash, body balms, personal care, skincare, makeup and hair care products - a range of which you can shop now with Meeka Body. Take this first step towards a more holistic lifestyle and start creating a healthier and happier existence.
